On Thursday, law enforcement executed a search warrant on the property located on 5th Line, uncovering a substantial illicit cannabis operation. The authorities seized over 7,600 cannabis plants and a staggering 100 pounds of dried cannabis buds. The estimated street value of the seized product exceeded $3.8 million, a clear indication of the scale of the illegal activity. And this is the part most people miss... the impact on the local community.
As a result of this investigation, eight individuals now face charges related to the unlawful cultivation, propagation, or harvesting of cannabis plants, as well as possession with the intent to distribute. The individuals charged include five residents from North York: 28-year-old Duc Le, 44-year-old Hoang Nga, 44-year-old Thu Nguyen, 43-year-old Thi Nguyen, and 49-year-old Ngyenthi Sang. Additionally, three individuals from Scarborough were charged: 52-year-old Shua Tang-Zhong, 51-year-old Zhonghua Ye, and 51-year-old Yin Yang.
The accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. This case raises questions about the extent of illegal cannabis operations and the challenges faced by law enforcement.
