A burst water main on Shore Drive in Worcester has caused significant disruption, leaving many residents and businesses without water. This incident, which occurred early Saturday morning, December 6th, 2025, has triggered a series of events impacting the community.
Initially, the water main break led to widespread outages, affecting numerous homes and commercial establishments. But that's not all... Power outages were also reported in the vicinity, including areas on West Boylston Street.
By 10:30 a.m., the city provided an update, indicating that the water main break was contained. Officials assured residents that water pressure would gradually increase throughout the day. The affected areas encompass Shore Drive, Norton Drive, the Burncoat and Greendale neighborhoods, and locations near the West Boylston line.
Important Note: Residents should anticipate discolored water as the system is fully restored. Crews from the Department of Public Works are actively working on-site, and police have implemented detours. Norton Drive remains closed between West Boylston Street and Shore Drive while repairs are underway.
Furthermore, National Grid is assessing the related power outages. According to National Grid's power outage map, over 500 customers in Worcester were still experiencing power outages at 10:40 a.m.
